I know i have mentioned before... i am a makeup artist that wears very little makeup.

BUT... the one thing i do love (and always makes you look like you've gone to a bit more effort) is red liptick.

The best part about the red lipstick - is it's best paired nude. Pull everything else back.

I'm talking bare skin, but if your not quite a bare skin gal - go a BB cream, tinted moisturiser, or light foundation. Sweep of mascara & voila!

It has that amazing french girl je ne sais quoi about it too.

Plus in the middle of what they are forecasting to be a very hot summer here in OZ.  You don't want to be wearing loads of makeup - 'lady let your skin breathe'

A matte red is what your wanting - anything shiny is just going to slide straight off those lips and run a mile on these hot days and balmy nights.

So taking the anxiety out of entering the beauty department floor - here is my hit list of matte red lippy's & yes it's ok to have more than one!

MAC Lady Danger

Chanel Rouge Allure Ultimate Suede La Favorite

Bobbi Brown Limited Edition Old Hollywood

Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede Finale

NARS Jungle Red

Oh and while i think of it, one of the other little benefits of that red lippy. It's gonna make those toothy pegs lift a couple shades whiter - love me some colour theory!

IF your a new recruit to the lipstick club and the thought of applying a bright red lippy all wonky scares the be-geezus out of you - here's what your gonna do - cause i ain't letting you get out of it that easy!

Baby Steps! First apply lippy to the tip of your finger and blot onto said lips. Little by little you can build up. Have a couple of clean cue tips handy as they are always good for a tidy-up. Oh and blot those big kissers before heading out.

And just to prove i practice what i preach here i am with the red lips roaring...
